Feeling good

Looking good

If you are lucky, your hair will be absolutely magnificent during your pregnancy because the sebaceous glands in your scalp will be less active. Your hair will therefore be less greasy and have more volume. Try and choose the shampoo that suits you the best: in general, a gentle or baby shampoo.

Hair Colourants

We still don’t know enough about how much colorant passes into the blood through the scalp and what effect it can have on the baby.

At last, great nails… or not

For some people, their nails will be even stronger than before, for others growth will be slower or the nails will be more fragile and break easily. However, there are now many nail strengtheners and care products for nails on the market.

Greasy or dry

Due to hormonal balance your skin may become very dry or very greasy. If you fall into the second category you may be prone to acne.

A beautiful complexion

Pregnant women have a higher heart rate, therefore you will have those famous rosy cheeks characteristic of pregnant women. Your palms will also be redder. This improved blood irrigation can worsen the situation. Also avoid extreme sunbathing, Turkish baths and saunas! Also avoid major temperature variations and don’t wash your face with hot water.

Be careful in the sun

Pregnant women's skin contains more pigment. But beware of patches on your face! If you have a dark complexion, they will be yellowish and mostly around the eyes. This is called melasma. It can remain for a long time after the birth and return each time you go out in the sun. So, make sure you wear a cap with a peak if you are sunbathing and apply a high factor sun cream. Or better still: keep your head in the shade.

Teeth and gums

Besides brushing twice a day and flossing daily, you should have your teeth professionally cleaned once during your pregnancy. At your visit, be sure to tell the dentist or hygienist that you’re pregnant, or you suspect you might be. Local anaesthetic is fine for an extraction or filling, X rays are also okay. Youre dentist will ask you to wear a lead apron.

Weight gain

During pregnancy, women put on an average of 26 pounds , but this can vary from person to person. During the first three months, you will put on three or four pounds. This will increase as from the fourth month. Close to the delivery date, future mothers put on just over a pound a week.. These 26 pounds are made up of:

  • 6.6 pounds for the baby
  • 3.3 pounds for the amniotic fluid and the placenta
  • 4.4. pounds for the increased size of the breasts and uterus
  • 15.4 pounds in body weight. These pounds consist of a fat reserve used to protect the foetus, an extra litre of blood and fluid retention.

Some new underwear

Tender and large breasts are usually the first sign of pregnancy. This tenderness disappears rapidly. However, your breasts sometimes continue to increase over the whole nine months. In general you will go up one to one and a half sizes, both in cup and bust size.
