Pregnancy and alcohol
Drinking alcohol is, for many, one of life's pleasures. In pregnancy, however, it can cause problems and damage the developing baby. The risk of drinking an occasional unit of alcohol is small. Heavy drinking - whether steadily or in binges - is dangerous for the baby and should be avoided. The most vulnerable time is the first trimester. The best level of alcohol during pregnancy is zero.
Frequent need to urinate
Even though you are only a few weeks pregnant, you frequently have to go to the toilet. This frequent need to urinate is due to the growth of uterus which is pressing on the bladder. |

Always thirsty
The frequent need to urinate is also explained by the increased flow from the kidneys during pregnancy. You are thirsty more often, you drink more and therefore, urinate more.
Vary your drinks
During pregnancy you retain two to three litres of extra liquid, it is therefore important to keep fully hydrated. Avoid fizzy drinks as they will make you feel even more bloated. Drink a variety of fruit juices aswell as milk and yoghurt. Your baby needs a lot of calcium. A glass of water with a slice of lemon is good too. Be careful with coffee and tea: they both contain caffeine and theine. Excessive consumption may harm your health. Try to drink herbal teas instead. |
