Your babys expected date of birth is difficult to calculate precisely. On average, a pregnancy will last 40 weeks. The number of weeks is calculated from the first day of your last period. However, pregnancy starts two weeks after ovulation. It is virtually impossible to pin point the moment of fertilisation or ovulation, it is always a good idea to start from the first day of your last period.
Remember that less than 5% of women give birth on the predicted date, so it is best not to focus on that date too strongly. It is entirely normal to give birth one to two weeks before or after the due date.
When should you announce your pregnancy to your family and friends?
It is best to wait until the end of the first month of your pregnancy as there is an increased chance of miscarriage during the early stages of pregnancy. After two or three months the risk of a miscarriage is greatly reduced and so many women choose to share their good news at the end of the third month. |
