Wanting a baby - what to consider from the moment you decide you want a child

From a biological point of view, 20 years old is the ideal age to get pregnant, and it can take five or six months. From the age of 25, fertility gradually decreases and at 40, it takes, on average, twice as long as it does when you are 20 to get pregnant.

Stop smoking and drinking

If you want to get pregnant, it is better to stop smoking and drinking alcohol straight away. Beware: in general, you are usually already two weeks pregnant by the time you discover you are pregnant. It is precisely these two weeks that are crucial for the development of the embryo.

Take a folic acid supplement

It is advisable to take folic acid supplements as soon as you consider becoming pregnant. Folic Acid is necessary for the normal structure of the neural tube in developing embryos. It is also necessary for production of healthy blood and helping your baby to grow. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
