Hypothermia designates a body temperature lower than 35°C. It concerns infants and old people most of all and arises for a variety of reason (weather conditions, intoxications with medicine, etc.), most often during extremely cold periods.

It is sometimes difficult to detect as it can develop very slowly. Shivering may be a sign of hypothermia, but the shivering may stop while the hypothermia continues.
Hypothermia may give rise to complications which result in a heart attack or the appearance of frostbite.
