Actions to be taken
- Make sure the sick person is suitably hydrated: make him/her drink as often as possible, more than usual.
- Cover him/her well (especially infants) to avoid shivering, but not excessively so as to let body heat escape. Monitor constantly.
- Keep the room temperature between 21°C and 23°C.
- Administer medication taking all the necessary precautions (see “Which medication to use in the case of fever?”)

Which medication to use in case of fever?
Drugs which lower temperature are known as anti-pyretics, these include:
- paracetamol: most commonly used,
- ibuprofen: a non-steroid anti-inflammatory (NSAID),
- aspirin: also an NSAID, but not used routinely for children.

- Always read the labels carefully and administer all medicines in accordance with the instructions.
- Keep an eye out for any side effects and inform your doctor or pharmacist if necessary.
